| Agency Placement
(confidential) |
Birth parents and their
families are offered counseling around planning for their expected
child. If a confidential adoption is the plan of their choice, a
background and genetic history is taken to be shared with the adoptive
family. Birth parents have the option of selecting a family for their
child by viewing non-identifying letters from families who have an
approved home-study with the agency and are waiting for a placement.
They also have an option of meeting a family before the placement, and
exchanging pictures and letters through the agency after the placement.
In an agency placement adoption, birth parents rights are legally
terminated by voluntary entrustment or court order with custody given to
the agency. The agency then places the child in the home of the
prospective adoptive family, and maintains custody until a Final Order
of Adoption is entered. |
| Parental Placement
(open) |
Parental Placement
counseling services are available to expectant birth parents who want to
explore transferring legal custody of their infant directly to an
adoptive family. Catholic Charities can also provide home study services
to adoptive parents seeking this type of "open adoption".
Birth and
adoptive parents can be connected through Catholic Charities, or already
connected prior to requesting any services from us. We can provide the
legally required simultaneous meeting exchanging all identifying
information. |

International Adoption |
Catholic Charities
provides the home study and post-placement services for families wishing
to adopt Internationally. The family may need to work with a source
agency who will provide a direct connection to the country desired.
Process should start with choosing a country, contacting a source agency
and starting the home study.
When a home study is completed and approved, it is
forwarded to the agency, immigration and/or foreign
contact who have agreed to place a child. |
| Special
Adoption |
Special Adoption Services
Catholic Charities provides adoption services to families who may have
unique circumstances and needs, including relative adoptions, adoptions
in which the family is working with an out-of-state agency towards an
open or closed adoption, special health considerations of the child, and
trans-racial adoptions. |
