Credit Counseling (Catholic
Charities Credit Counseling) |
Catholic
Charities offers comprehensive and confidential programs, including:
Budget/Financial Counseling -
Counselors will help individuals and families set a budget based on income,
living expenses, priorities and goals. Future financial problems can be
avoided through planning, wise use of credit, education and family money
management. All sessions
are free and confidential.
Debt Management -
Sometimes the debt can be so overwhelming that continued help is
needed to get the situation under control. Counselors will notify each
creditor on the client's behalf and negotiate a payment plan that is
acceptable to both parties. Creditors are asked to stop all collection
efforts and deal with CCCC directly. Some creditors will reduce or eliminate
finance charges.
Payments to creditors are handled directly through the CCCC office.
Clients will make one payment for all eligible creditors and CCCC will
disburse those funds to individual creditors. Payments are deposited in a
trust account and disbursed monthly to creditors until the client's account
are paid in full or minimum payments can be resumed.
Typically, CCCC can assist with credit cards, department store cards,
unsecured loans and hospital bills. We cannot negotiate payment
arrangements for mortgage payments, car loans or student loans.
Consumer Education -
The answer to financial problems lies in preventative education. Catholic
Charities Credit Counseling has trained counselors to provide presentations
on credit, consumer rights, money management, shopping tips, and car/home
buying. |
