Mobility Mentor — (Full-Time Position with flexible schedule that includes evenings and/or weekends to meet families’ needs, while maintaining 40 hours per week)

Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia is seeking a highly motivated individual for the Mobility Mentor position. The ASPIRE Pilot was developed by United Way of South Hampton Roads’ Women United membership to eliminate barriers women and children face to escape poverty and achieve permanent self-sufficiency.   The Mobility Mentor primarily serves as a coach and guide for the female head of household enrolled in the ASPIRE Pilot Program.  The Mentor will coordinate services for pilot families along the South Hampton Roads Bridge to Self-Sufficiency (adapted with permission from Economic Mobility Pathway’s Bridge to Self-Sufficiency™), conduct assessments, identify interventions, guide the development of family goals, make referrals to pilot partners and oversee the provision of those services. The Mobility mentor will work with families primarily in their homes, or in convenient community locations near families’ homes and/or workplaces within the cities of Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth & Suffolk.

The goal of the Mobility Mentor is to work with the entire family while preparing the head of household to work toward reaching their goals.  The Mentor will identify strengths and problem solve around areas of challenge with participants. Recognizing that barriers to self-sufficiency are multi-faceted, Mobility mentors work with families to develop goals related to family and personal well-being, career, education, housing and family finances.   Knowledge of community resources is essential to the position.  Candidate will also have knowledge of: procedures, techniques, trends, and literature of strengths-based and participant driven program models, principles of community organizing, service coordination, and advocacy to initiate/coordinate service delivery and follow-up services. Effective oral and written communication and use of personal computer and standard office software skills are a must.  The Mentor will maintain meticulous and up-to-date case files, correctly assess situations within scope of responsibility and to make sound judgments within existing laws, policies and regulations, establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, children, co-workers and with representatives of other agencies and programs.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a social-services related field. Minimum of two years of experience in case management or related field experience is required. Financial & Housing Counselor (Part-time, 24 hours per week, Virginia Beach office)

Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia is searching for a qualified Financial and Housing Counselor to serve primarily out of our Virginia Beach Blvd. office. The primary job of a Financial and Housing Counselor is to provide clients with professional financial and/or housing counseling services. Counselors will advise and educate clients on a variety of financial topics and use professional discretion and judgment to help clients set up and implement an individually tailored Action Plan that addresses their specific issues and concerns. To fulfill these roles the counselor must have good interpersonal skills, possess a working knowledge of finances/credit, understand default and loss mitigation solutions, be an effective problem-solver, and be able to convey suggestions/ideas in a constructive, nonjudgmental manner.

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred, two or more years experience in financial industry, and ability to work on projects independently. The candidate will develop and compose educational curriculum in support of community outreach and educational activities, have basic proficiency with calculator, Microsoft Word, Excel, & Outlook, and will meet with clients to create action plans to meet their financial goals.  Candidate will adhere to and follow HUD Federal regulations and other funder reporting guidelines that include appropriate case documentation, data entry, client action steps, client follow up and closing protocols. Companion Care Pilot Program Workers 

CCEVA is hiring several Companion Care workers to provide companionship to clients enrolled in the Companion Care Pilot Program in order for them to stay socially engaged and to provide assistance with their daily activities in order to remain in their home comfortably and safely. The Companion Care Program provides non-medical, in-home support services such as: home management (light housekeeping, laundry, bed making, and trash removal), meal planning and preparation, grocery shopping and running errands for client, transporting clients in your car to run errands and shopping, and providing medication reminders.

Successful applicants will have two or more years of recent experience in caring for the elderly.  Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or have successfully completed a Home Care Training Program is preferred.  Candidates should be dependable, people-oriented, have attention to detail, and ability to work independently.  Must have an insured vehicle and a valid Virginia Driver’s License in good standing, a High School Diploma or equivalent, and be First Aid/CPR certified.  Applicants should have a working telephone with voicemail, must have a clean background check, a negative TB test, negative drug test and must complete a 25-hour training course.  The physical requirements of the job are: ability to bend over, ability to stand for extended periods of time, lift 10 lbs., push a vacuum, and climb stairs.

In-Home Respite Care Workers

Applications are now being taken for In-Home Respite Care Workers ages 18 through retirement years.  After completing a 25-hour free training program, the workers will be put on CCEVA’s registry and assignments will be given to work in 3- to 8-hour increments in various households in the Hampton Roads area.  This is considered a contracted position, part-time with flexible schedules.

Qualifications are: a sincere interest in helping older adults to maintain some independence, a caring spirit and an initial commitment to work in the program for four months after the training.  The Respite Worker will also be required to complete a Social Service and Criminal Background check.  For more information or an application, call the In-Home Respite Care coordinator, at Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia 757-875-0060. Administrative Support – Part-Time Norfolk Office

Catholic Charities is looking for a Part-Time Receptionist for its Norfolk office, 32 hours per week. The position will serve as Administrative Support for the Adoption Services department and will include front office management. The qualified candidate will have three or more years of related office experience and must be proficient in keyboarding, Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel and the ability to determine crisis situations and act appropriately.

The essential functions include routing incoming phone calls and providing resource information; greeting clients and visitors and processing payments; maintaining the client files (paper and electronic); attending monthly department meetings, maintaining a high level of confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA; performing routine clerical tasks like faxing, filing, scanning and copying.
