Mental Health Administrative Assistant (Part-Time, 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Virginia Beach)

Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia, Inc. is seeking a part-time Mental Health Administrative Assistant in our Princess Anne (Virginia Beach) office. The Assistant will be responsible for greeting clients, answering phones, routing phone calls, make appointment reminder calls to clients, taking messages, scheduling new and existing client counseling appointments, processing intake forms and creating client folders for counselors, process requested copies, updating weekly and daily client spreadsheets and processing client payments with responsibility to send payments to the Finance department weekly.

The Assistant will be a team player working with other administrative assistants in other office as well as be responsible for securing the office building at the end of the night along with being familiar with community resources to provide assistance to current and future clients who call.

Guardianship Case Manager

Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Case Manager for our Guardianship Program.
The functions and responsibilities of this position include:

  • Maintain accurate records of clients
  • Prepare legal reports for Department of Social Services and Commissioner of Accounts
  • Able to operate a motor vehicle to transport clients, visit clients, and run errands on behalf of clients
  • Manage emergencies while on call with emergency cell phone
  • Use independent judgment to make important decisions which impact the client’s safety, benefits, and medical/legal/residential/housing/care needs

The qualifications for this position include:

  • College degree, preferred in human services, social work, or nursing background or related experience
  • Two or more years of experience with the elderly, chronically/mentally ill or intellectually challenged and case management coordination
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, email, Internet and electronic record keeping
  • Valid Virginia Driver’s License

Financial and Housing Counselor

Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia is searching for a qualified full-time Financial and Housing Counselor to serve three days per week in our Norfolk office and two days per week in our Newport News office. The position will primarily see clients in need of financial assistance. The primary job of a Financial and Housing Counselor is to provide clients with professional financial and/or housing counseling services. Counselors will advise and educate clients on a variety of financial topics and use professional discretion and judgment to help clients set up and implement an individually tailored Action Plan that addresses their specific issues and concerns. To fulfill these roles the counselor must have good interpersonal skills, possess a working knowledge of finances/credit, understand default and loss mitigation solutions, be an effective problem-solver, and be able to convey suggestions/ideas in a constructive, nonjudgmental manner.

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree or have two or more years’ experience in the financial industry, and have the ability to work on projects independently. HUD certification preferred (if not certified, candidate will work towards certification within 60 days) ability to speak and understand Spanish a plus. The candidate will meet with clients seeking rental assistance to develop a budget, determine eligibility for assistance, process all paperwork and work with clients and landlords through the entire process. Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, & Outlook. Candidate will adhere to and follow HUD Federal regulations and other funder reporting guidelines that include appropriate case documentation, data entry, client action steps, client follow up and closing protocols. This position requires some regional travel and will be based out of the Norfolk and Newport News offices.

Companion Care Program Workers 

CCEVA is hiring several Companion Care workers to provide companionship to clients enrolled in the Companion Care Program in order for them to stay socially engaged and to provide assistance with their daily activities in order to remain in their home comfortably and safely. The Companion Care Program provides non-medical, in-home support services such as: home management (light housekeeping, laundry, bed making, and trash removal), meal planning and preparation, grocery shopping and running errands for client, transporting clients in your car to run errands and shopping, and providing medication reminders.

Successful applicants will have two or more years of recent experience in caring for the elderly.  Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or have successfully completed a Home Care Training Program is preferred.  Candidates should be dependable, people-oriented, have attention to detail, and ability to work independently.  Must have an insured vehicle and a valid Virginia Driver’s License in good standing, a High School Diploma or equivalent, and be First Aid/CPR certified.  Applicants should have a working telephone with voicemail, must have a clean background check, a negative TB test, a negative drug test and must complete a 25-hour training course.  The physical requirements of the job are the ability to bend over, the ability to stand for extended periods of time, lift 10 lbs., push a vacuum, and climb stairs.

In-Home Respite Care Workers

Applications are now being taken for In-Home Respite Care Workers ages 18 through retirement years.  After completing a 25-hour free training program, the workers will be put on CCEVA’s registry and assignments will be given to work in 3- to 8-hour increments in various households in the Hampton Roads area.  This is considered a contracted position, part-time with flexible schedules.

Qualifications are: a sincere interest in helping older adults to maintain some independence, a caring spirit and an initial commitment to work in the program for four months after the training.  The Respite Worker will also be required to complete a Social Service and Criminal Background check.  For more information or an application, call the In-Home Respite Care coordinator, at Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia 757-875-0060.
